DEVELOPER DOCUMENTATION / Discord
Discord Developer Docs MCP
Hosted Discord server providing search and retrieval over the public developer documentation site, plus a submit_feedback tool for reporting documentation problems. Verified live: an unauthenticated initialize handshake returned serverInfo Documentation - Discord 1.0.0 with tools and resources capabilities. It cannot read or post in Discord servers.
“This Model Context Protocol server provides search and retrieval tools for the Documentation - Discord site.”
01 / THE REASONING
Why this made the selection.
- Discord publishes it on its own documentation domain and announced it in the developer change log. Every Discord server found in discovery that can act on a guild was a community project built on the bot API.
- The endpoint was verified live with an initialize handshake, so the server's identity, capabilities and read-only scope come from the server rather than a directory listing.
02 / THE REVIEW RECORD
What we actually inspected.
Source review has boundaries.
A clear record is more useful than a “safe” badge.
Material inspected
- Live initialize handshake against https://docs.discord.com/mcp on the review date: HTTP 405 on GET and a JSON-RPC response on POST identifying serverInfo name Documentation - Discord, version 1.0.0, with tools and resources capabilities.
- Discord developer change log: docs now work with AI development tools via Copy-as-Markdown, an LLMs.txt file, and an MCP server available at https://docs.discord.com/mcp.
- Server instructions returned in the handshake: the server provides search and retrieval tools for the Documentation - Discord site and answers from public site content.
- GET https://docs.discord.com/mcp on 2026-10-13: a JSON server descriptor with instructions, tools and resources.
Our findings
- The endpoint requires no authentication for the initialize handshake, consistent with a public documentation search surface.
- Discord publishes no official MCP server for guild operations; community Discord servers were screened out as unofficial.
- The server descriptor read on 2026-10-13 lists three tools, search_documentation_discord, query_docs_filesystem_documentation_discord and submit_feedback, and one resource, mintlify://skills/discord.
- Correction, 2026-10-13: the descriptor’s instructions say the server is read-only apart from submit_feedback. The earlier record called it read-only without that exception, and its cost line said free, which no cited page states.
- query_docs_filesystem_documentation_discord runs read-only shell-like commands over a virtual filesystem of documentation pages. Its description states nothing runs on the user’s computer or the server host.
- Correction, 2026-10-13: neither cited page prints a JSON client block, so the earlier configExample, which no source printed, was removed. The install steps carry the URL.
Not established by this review
- No tool call beyond the initialize handshake was executed; search result quality was not measured.
The review applies to the material and revision named here. A newer upstream release can change its behavior.
03 / PUT IT TO WORK
Connect a server deliberately.
- Add https://docs.discord.com/mcp as a remote MCP server in the client.
- No authentication step is required; the server serves public documentation content.
Before you start
- An MCP client that supports remote Streamable HTTP servers.
