“Search multiple search engines with engine-specific schemas and optional interactive result views.”
01 / THE REASONING
Why this made the selection.
- Search multiple search engines with engine-specific schemas and optional interactive result views.
- The setup documentation makes this operating boundary explicit: Search operations require a SerpApi API key even though connecting, listing tools and reading schema resources do not.
02 / THE REVIEW RECORD
What we actually inspected.
Source review has boundaries.
A clear record is more useful than a “safe” badge.
Material inspected
- README.md
- LICENSE
- pyproject.toml
- src/server.py
Our findings
- Search operations require a SerpApi API key even though connecting, listing tools and reading schema resources do not.
- Engine-specific fields vary; a successful tool listing is not proof of authenticated search. Interactive App tools require a supporting host and are opt-in.
Not established by this review
- No server installation, authentication, live tool execution or isolation test was performed.
- Package/container parity with the pinned source and transitive dependency security were not established.
The review applies to the material and revision named here. A newer upstream release can change its behavior.
03 / PUT IT TO WORK
Connect a server deliberately.
DOCUMENTED COMMAND
codex mcp add serpapi --url https://mcp.serpapi.com/mcp --bearer-token-env-var SERPAPI_API_KEY Copying does not execute this command. It may retrieve a newer version than the reviewed source.
- Use the hosted /mcp endpoint with an Authorization: Bearer key, or the pinned Python stdio entrypoint. For Codex, the documented bearer-token environment option keeps the key out of the URL.
- Verify the connected account, available tools and target resource before authorizing mutations.
Before you start
- Pinned package Python requirement: >=3.12.
- A compatible local process MCP client.
- Search operations require a SerpApi API key even though connecting, listing tools and reading schema resources do not.
