CACHE AND DATA OPERATIONS / Momento Inc.

Momento MCP Server

TypeScript MCP server from Momento that gets and sets cache items and can list, create, or delete caches in a Momento account.

“A simple Model Context Protocol (MCP) server implementation for Momento Cache.”

01 / THE REASONING

Why this made the selection.

  • Momento publishes @gomomento/mcp-momento in momentohq/mcp-momento. The README at fd5d3e7aa19f337750207d0947db273bdfd9815a lists get, set, list-caches, create-cache, and delete-cache.
  • The LICENSE appendix at that commit reads Copyright 2025 Momento Inc. package.json version is 0.1.0 and the build script is tsc.

02 / THE REVIEW RECORD

What we actually inspected.

Source review has boundaries.
A clear record is more useful than a “safe” badge.

Material inspected

  • README.md at fd5d3e7aa19f337750207d0947db273bdfd9815a: tool list, environment variables, Inspector command, Claude Desktop JSON.
  • package.json at the same revision: name @gomomento/mcp-momento, version 0.1.0, build script tsc, dependency @gomomento/sdk.
  • LICENSE at the same revision: Apache License 2.0, appendix Copyright 2025 Momento Inc.

Our findings

  • get and set are data-plane tools. list-caches, create-cache, and delete-cache are described as control-plane tools that need a super user API key.
  • No install command in the README is only the server. The Inspector line also launches @modelcontextprotocol/inspector, so it is not recorded as install.command.

Not established by this review

  • Not executed: it was not installed or run.
  • No Momento API call was made.

The review applies to the material and revision named here. A newer upstream release can change its behavior.

03 / PUT IT TO WORK

Connect a server deliberately.

Upstream setup instructions ↗
  1. Create a Momento API key. The README says control-plane tools require a super user API key.
  2. Export MOMENTO_API_KEY. MOMENTO_CACHE_NAME and DEFAULT_TTL_SECONDS are optional in the README.
  3. Use the printed Claude Desktop block, or the local development path npm install, npm run build, then the Inspector against node dist/index.js.

Before you start

  • A Momento API key.
  • Node and npm for the local build path, or npx for the client examples.

Documented configuration example

Use the client and authentication context described in the setup guidance. Configuration formats vary between hosts.
