AWS Pricing MCP Server

Queries AWS price-list information and can save local cost reports.

“MCP server for accessing real-time AWS pricing information and providing cost analysis capabilities”

01 / THE REASONING

Why this made the selection.

  • Queries AWS price-list information and can save local cost reports.
  • Discovering service attributes before constructing a price query.

02 / THE REVIEW RECORD

What we actually inspected.

Source review has boundaries.
A clear record is more useful than a “safe” badge.

Material inspected

  • src/aws-pricing-mcp-server/README.md
  • LICENSE

Our findings

  • README144–145 distinguishes AWS_PROFILE from the Pricing API endpoint region; AWS_REGION alone is not the quoted product location.
  • The report tool writes local files; the README describes output-directory confinement, not an independently tested security guarantee.

Not established by this review

  • The pinned documentation and selected source files were reviewed; the external server was not executed by this review.
  • No authenticated service requests, account mutations, tenant access controls, or end-to-end MCP client setup were tested.
  • A repository revision does not pin an unversioned or @latest registry package; resolved package provenance and runtime permission enforcement remain unverified.

The review applies to the material and revision named here. A newer upstream release can change its behavior.

03 / PUT IT TO WORK

Connect a server deliberately.

Upstream setup instructions ↗

DOCUMENTED COMMAND

uvx awslabs.aws-pricing-mcp-server@latest

Copying does not execute this command. It may retrieve a newer version than the reviewed source.

  1. Install uv.
  2. Register the uvx command in the MCP client.
  3. Set AWS_PROFILE for the intended account and AWS_REGION for the Pricing API endpoint; specify the product location in the query. Configure AWS_PRICING_MCP_OUTPUT_DIR for generated reports.

Before you start

  • uv and a supported Python interpreter
  • AWS credentials with the necessary Pricing API permissions

Documented configuration example

Use the client and authentication context described in the setup guidance. Configuration formats vary between hosts.

{"command":"uvx","args":["awslabs.aws-pricing-mcp-server@latest"],"env":{"AWS_PROFILE":"default","AWS_REGION":"us-east-1"}}
