PRODUCT ANALYTICS / Amplitude

Amplitude MCP Server

Amplitude's hosted MCP server for analysing product data, experiments and user behaviour: search dashboards, charts, notebooks and experiments, query charts and metrics, analyse experiment significance, and search session replays — with separate US and EU endpoints for data residency.

“The Amplitude MCP (Model Context Protocol) server enables teams to analyze product data, experiments, and user behavior through natural language conversations with AI.”

01 / THE REASONING

Why this made the selection.

  • The publisher hosts the server itself at mcp.amplitude.com with an EU endpoint for data residency, and documents endpoints, authentication and tools in a public guide repository and on its documentation site.
  • The tool set spans analytics queries, experiment significance analysis and feature flag inspection in one OAuth connection, and the publisher states plainly that it respects existing Amplitude permissions.

02 / THE REVIEW RECORD

What we actually inspected.

Source review has boundaries.
A clear record is more useful than a “safe” badge.

Material inspected

  • Amplitude MCP server guide repository at pinned revision ee77a55c846c499027212589285d6ef9d637a87d: README documents the US endpoint https://mcp.amplitude.com/mcp and the EU endpoint https://mcp.eu.amplitude.com/mcp, OAuth 2.0 authentication, and the full tool list — search, query_chart, query_experiment, query_dataset, query_metric, get_charts, get_dashboard, get_notebook, get_experiments, get_flags, get_session_replays, get_event_properties, get_context.
  • The guide's security considerations: data access is limited to the signed-in user's current Amplitude permissions, third-party AI models process data during analysis, and organisation administrators can control MCP server access.
  • The guide carries the publisher's active-development warning: some functions and settings may be unavailable, with possible bugs, performance issues and rate limits.
  • Amplitude MCP Server documentation page and its Cursor setup page at amplitude.com/docs/amplitude-ai/amplitude-mcp, read 2026-10-13.

Our findings

  • The server is hosted by Amplitude; the guide repository is publisher documentation rather than server source, so repository and revision are recorded as null per the hosted-server precedent.
  • Amplitude also maintains an MCP plugin marketplace repository for coding tools, with pushes in the week of this review, confirming active publisher investment in the MCP surface.
  • The guide README at the pinned revision lists 13 read-oriented tools. Amplitude’s documentation page, read 2026-10-13, describes a larger catalogue that includes write and delete tools. GitHub reports the guide repository’s last push as 2025-10-24 (https://api.github.com/repos/amplitude/mcp-server-guide).
  • Every taxonomy delete is a two-step action: the first call returns a confirmation summary, and the tool acts only when called again with confirmed set to true.
  • The README’s documentation link, https://amplitude.com/docs/analytics/amplitude-mcp, now redirects to https://amplitude.com/docs/amplitude-ai/amplitude-mcp.
  • Correction, 2026-10-13: the earlier configExample was credited to the guide README, which prints no client block, and matched no published block. It is now the block on Amplitude’s Cursor setup page.

Not established by this review

  • No OAuth flow was completed and no chart, experiment or replay query was executed.

The review applies to the material and revision named here. A newer upstream release can change its behavior.

03 / PUT IT TO WORK

Connect a server deliberately.

Upstream setup instructions ↗
  1. Add the endpoint matching your data residency — https://mcp.amplitude.com/mcp (US) or https://mcp.eu.amplitude.com/mcp (EU) — as a remote MCP server.
  2. Complete OAuth in the client and confirm the signed-in user's project access.
  3. Start with a search for the dashboards, charts or experiments relevant to the question.

Before you start

  • Access to an Amplitude organisation.
  • An MCP-compatible client supporting remote HTTP servers with OAuth.

Documented configuration example

Use the client and authentication context described in the setup guidance. Configuration formats vary between hosts.
