“Azure Event Hubs SDK for Python streaming. Use for high-throughput event ingestion, producers, consumers, and checkpointing. Triggers: "event hubs", "EventHubProducerClient", "EventHubConsumerClient", "streaming", "partitions". ”

[microsoft · upstream description ↗](https://github.com/microsoft/skills/blob/fc164ba1d7a0c10377dbcc1c9ac07253b9329fdb/.github/plugins/azure-sdk-python/skills/azure-eventhub-py/SKILL.md) Our analysis follows below.

01 / THE REASONING

## Why this made the selection.

 - Production checkpointing is a separate package plus a blob container, not a feature of the producer client alone.
- The bundled CLI can both describe a hub and send test events, and it authenticates with the async DefaultAzureCredential.
- The definition separates batches, partition selection and persistent checkpoints. Selected receive/helper branches show event printing and checkpoint updates after processing.
- Preserve per-partition progress with a Blob checkpoint store

### A good fit for

 - Receiving from an Event Hub with a blob checkpoint store.
- Inspecting partition ids before writing a consumer.
- Preserve per-partition progress with a Blob checkpoint store
- Choose separate consumer groups for independent applications
- Choose explicit partition-ID routing or partition-key routing when preparing an Event Hubs producer batch.

### Weigh up before choosing

 - Sending with the helper publishes events to Azure. The skill does not create the namespace.
- A full batch raises ValueError. The file does not size the batch for you.
- This review did not execute the resource.
- Checkpoint only after successful processing; checkpointing is not an exactly-once processing guarantee.
- The installation block names the async checkpoint-store package while a later sample uses the sync namespace; align package/client mode.
- The helper prints event bodies/properties and can advance checkpoints; treat it as an active consumer, not metadata-only inspection.
- The setup example uses require_envvar=True, so AZURE_TOKEN_CREDENTIALS is required even for local use despite the adjacent prose. Choose and verify the credential chain explicitly.

02 / THE REVIEW RECORD

## What we actually inspected.

Source review has boundaries. A clear record is more useful than a “safe” badge.

### Material inspected

 - .github/plugins/azure-sdk-python/skills/azure-eventhub-py/SKILL.md
- .github/plugins/azure-sdk-python/skills/azure-eventhub-py/scripts/setup_consumer.py
- LICENSE
- README.md

### Our findings

 - The helper uses DefaultAzureCredential from azure.identity.aio and talks to the Event Hubs namespace. Checkpointing also needs a storage account URL.
- The send subcommand is part of the same CLI as receive. Running it is not a read-only status check.
- It does not fall back to a connection string in the helper. The skill also says a full batch must be handled by catching ValueError, and it does not retry that for you.
- The definition separates batches, partition selection and persistent checkpoints. Selected receive/helper branches show event printing and checkpoint updates after processing.

### Not established by this review

 - The resource was not executed and its tools were not called.
- setup_consumer.py was not run and no events were sent.
- No skill execution, authenticated service operation, or outcome benchmark was performed.
- Not executed: it was not installed or run.

The review applies to the material and revision named here. A newer upstream release can change its behavior.

03 / PUT IT TO WORK

## Add a skill to your workflow.

- Install matching sync/async packages and grant Event Hubs data access plus Blob access when checkpoints are enabled.
- Confirm hub, consumer group, partition/start position and processing/checkpoint strategy before receiving.

### Before you start

 - Python, matching Azure SDK packages and azure-identity
- Authorized Azure resources and operation-specific roles

### Compatibility

Agents supporting directory-based SKILL.md instructions

### Local instructions; runtime access depends on the workflow

 - Send/read streaming payloads, write checkpoint blobs and expose event content in helper output; consumption uses service capacity.

### Cost model

The skill is free; service usage and infrastructure can incur charges.
