“Build and troubleshoot Cloudflare Basin analytics workflows with Basin Pipelines, Basin Catalog, and Basin SQL. Use for streaming data into R2 Iceberg tables, managing catalogs, or querying those tables; also use for requests using the former Data Platform, Pipelines, R2 Data Catalog, or R2 SQL names.”

[Cloudflare · upstream description ↗](https://github.com/cloudflare/skills/blob/53395984c3ea1925d00fce03b266112302f050e6/skills/basin/SKILL.md) Our analysis follows below.

01 / THE REASONING

## Why this made the selection.

 - Basin SQL is tied to the WRANGLER_BASIN_SQL_AUTH_TOKEN variable and the REST path /basin-sql/query/{BUCKET}.
- The file says to check the installed Wrangler version and the current reference pages before running commands, because the Data Platform migration is still ongoing.

### A good fit for

 - Choosing Basin Pipelines, Basin Catalog, or Basin SQL only after the installed Wrangler version is checked

### Weigh up before choosing

 - The file names the SQL auth token and a pre-command version check. It does not show a delete, a dry-run, or a refusal to start a pipeline.
- `npx skills add https://github.com/cloudflare/skills` adds skills from the whole cloudflare/skills repository. It does not install this file alone.
- `/plugin install cloudflare@cloudflare` is a different command. The repository README says the native plugin also installs the Cloudflare MCP server, which this review did not inspect.
- references/pipelines, references/catalog, and references/sql were not opened. No plugin README sits above this skill; the repository README and plugin.json were read.
- This review did not execute the resource.

02 / THE REVIEW RECORD

## What we actually inspected.

Source review has boundaries. A clear record is more useful than a “safe” badge.

### Material inspected

 - skills/basin/SKILL.md
- README.md
- plugin.json
- LICENSE

### Our findings

 - The file says to retrieve current docs before implementing changes, especially for limits, pricing, permissions, and CLI syntax.
- Basin SQL is described as using WRANGLER_BASIN_SQL_AUTH_TOKEN, with the REST query path /basin-sql/query/{BUCKET}.
- New guidance is told to use the basin command families, while wrangler pipelines, wrangler r2 bucket catalog, and wrangler r2 sql are said to keep working.
- Existing resources and configurations are said to continue to work after the Data Platform rebrand, and legacy API identifiers may still use the old names.

### Not established by this review

 - The resource was not executed and its tools were not called.
- No Wrangler command was run and the named auth token was not used.
- The bundled pipeline, catalog, and SQL reference guides were not opened.
- Not executed: it was not installed or run.

The review applies to the material and revision named here. A newer upstream release can change its behavior.

03 / PUT IT TO WORK

## Add a skill to your workflow.

[Upstream setup instructions ↗](https://github.com/cloudflare/skills/blob/53395984c3ea1925d00fce03b266112302f050e6/README.md)

DOCUMENTED COMMAND

npx skills add cloudflare/skills Copy command ↗

Run in your terminal to choose your AI tools, project or global scope, and installation method. This short command follows the current upstream version; the review covers the revision shown above.

 Optional: install the reviewed revision

Keeps the original source and installer version where recorded, while leaving your AI tools and installation scope for you to choose.

npx skills add https://github.com/cloudflare/skills Copy reviewed-revision command ↗ - The repository README shows `npx skills add https://github.com/cloudflare/skills` for agents that install Agent Skills separately. That command covers the repository, not this file alone.
- The same README shows `/plugin marketplace add cloudflare/skills` and `/plugin install cloudflare@cloudflare` for Claude Code. It says the native plugin installs guidance and the Cloudflare MCP server.
- The README also shows copying a skill folder into an agent skill directory. This review did not copy or install anything.

### Before you start

 - Node.js with npx if the skills CLI command is used
- An agent that can read an Agent Skills directory
- Wrangler only if an operator later runs the basin commands; this review did not run them

### Compatibility

Claude Code · Codex · Cursor · GitHub Copilot · OpenCode · OpenAI Codex · Pi · VS Code

### Local skill text; a Basin SQL query needs the named auth token only if an operator runs one

 - Read the skill text
- Use WRANGLER_BASIN_SQL_AUTH_TOKEN only if an operator runs a Basin SQL query
- Run Wrangler basin commands only if an operator chooses to, after checking the installed version

### Cost model

Apache-2.0; no Wrangler command was run
