“MCP Server for Microsoft Clarity based on data export API”

 [Microsoft · upstream description ↗](https://github.com/microsoft/clarity-mcp-server/blob/1708e8d45f940dd9eb14dfc06d68d766a200ca1f/package.json) Our analysis follows below.

01 / THE REASONING

## Why this made the selection.

 - Publisher-maintained adapter exposes focused analytics, recording and documentation tools.
- Source makes the external API destination and token lookup visible.
- The pinned README reads Microsoft Clarity analytics, session recordings, and docs through the Clarity data export API.
- A Clarity API token is required, either on the process or as an argument to get-clarity-data.

### A good fit for

 - Compare mobile sessions containing JavaScript errors over an explicit time range.
- Retrieve recordings matching a page and browser, then use Clarity to inspect behaviour.
- Pulling Clarity traffic or session data into an MCP client that already has a data-export token

### Weigh up before choosing

 - The README mentions token-per-tool input, but the inspected implementation uses the configured CLARITY_API_TOKEN; use the environment or CLI configuration.
- The README minimum is Node 16, while request code calls global fetch without a polyfill; choose a supported Node release with built-in fetch.
- Results and recording context are sent to the connected model; this is not an offline replay analyser.
- The README does not describe an unauthenticated or public Clarity endpoint.
- Natural-language questions still go through that token and the export API.
- The file does not say the server writes Clarity settings.
- A pin does not verify transitive dependencies.
- This review did not execute the resource.
- A natural-language relative date interpreted in the host timezone can differ from the reporting period intended by a remote user.

02 / THE REVIEW RECORD

## What we actually inspected.

Source review has boundaries. A clear record is more useful than a “safe” badge.

### Material inspected

 - README.md
- LICENSE at the pinned revision
- package.json
- src/index.ts
- src/tools.ts
- src/utils.ts
- src/constants.ts
- LICENSE
- Round 2 reread of acquired publisher setup and permission evidence; see immutable wave review.

### Our findings

 - src/tools.ts POSTs requests to publisher endpoints using the configured bearer token.
- src/utils.ts accepts CLARITY_API_TOKEN from the environment; startup uses StdioServerTransport.
- The server reads Clarity session recordings, project analytics, and documentation for an MCP client.
- It requires a Clarity account and a data-export API token, passed as --clarity_api_token or as the token argument on get-clarity-data.
- The README describes querying and filtering that data. It does not describe changing a Clarity project or calling the API without a token.
- Analytics requests include the local runtime timezone, while recording requests serialize explicit start/end dates to ISO timestamps.

### Not established by this review

 - Server startup, authentication, live tool execution and security isolation were not tested.
- Published package/container parity with a source revision and hosted implementation internals were not tested.
- The server was not started and its tools were not called.
- A pin does not verify transitive dependencies.

The review applies to the material and revision named here. A newer upstream release can change its behavior.

03 / PUT IT TO WORK

## Connect a server deliberately.

[Upstream setup instructions ↗](https://github.com/microsoft/clarity-mcp-server/blob/1708e8d45f940dd9eb14dfc06d68d766a200ca1f/README.md)

DOCUMENTED COMMAND

 npx @microsoft/clarity-mcp-server Copy command ↗

Copying does not execute this command. It may retrieve a newer version than the reviewed source.

 - The README runs the server with npx as above, or installs it globally with npm. It was not run.
- Generate a data-export API token in the Clarity project settings and supply it as the README describes. Do not commit the token.

### Before you start

 - Node.js v16 or higher
- A Microsoft Clarity project and data-export API token

### Documented configuration example

Use the client and authentication context described in the setup guidance. Configuration formats vary between hosts.

 "@microsoft/clarity-mcp-server": {
 "command": "npx",

 }
 }
} Copy configuration ↗

### Compatibility

Claude Desktop · VS Code

### Implementation

TypeScript

### Transports

stdio

### Behaviour analytics

 - The inspected tools retrieve analytics, recording references and documentation; no project mutation tool is registered.
- The token and query are sent to clarity.microsoft.com; project access follows the token.

### Cost model

Clarity service terms and the model client apply; no MCP-specific price was verified.

04 / FOLLOW THE EVIDENCE
